UBC Okanagan has exceeded its $100 million start an evolution campaign goal by $100,000 and its target to double the number of UBC alumni engaged in the life of the university by 20%. “Funds raised during start an evolution will go towards student-centred initiatives, improvements to facilities, and research activities.” What does the new Liberal government mean for Canadian PSE? Among the publications that released university and college rankings or reports in recent weeks were The Globe and Mail; Research Infosource Inc. - which placed George Brown College at the pinnacle of its annual ranking of Canada’s Top 50 Research Colleges; and Maclean’s Magazine, crowning McGill (Medical / Doctoral), Simon Fraser (Comprehensive) and UNBC (Primarily Undergraduate) as tops in their respective categories. The perennial question remains: How much, if at all, do rankings influence decisions by potential students, parents and faculty members? Giving Tuesday is December 1, 2015. Is your school engaged? Find out how to participate, help and benefit at www.GivingTuesday.ca Canada needs a new “skills agenda”, according to analysis of a recent OECD report by three Ontario academic leaders and thinkers. They call for a nation-wide strategy to match skill development through PSE with skills requirements. “A new skills agenda is simply too important to the future of Canada to be left to piecemeal, uncoordinated strategies and actions.” |
