Campaign Readiness for Academics: Bonus Session and Reception

CCAE has added a bonus 30-minute session and an evening reception at the end of Day One of the Workshop on Campaign Readiness for Academics (February 3 - 4, 2016 at Ryerson University). The February 3rd session will conclude with a special 30-minute tutorial on “How to make the most of a donor/prospect event or reception”.  Then, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., CCAE will host a reception to which participants can invite alumni, prospects and donors. Put into practice some of the tips learned during the workshop, and see the lasting benefits to your school.  

The CCAE Workshop on Campaign Readiness for Academics provides a thorough grounding in types of campaigns, trends in global best practice and the elements of a comprehensive Campaign Plan and engagement strategy.

$2.5 million Joyce Foundation gift to Brock will cover full tuitions of multiple students. The major donation, announced on November 27, will create The Joyce Foundation Bursary, the largest single bursary fund in Brock’s history.

Waterloo climate change centre gains $4.25 million in funding. On November 30, Intact Financial Corporation and the University of Waterloo announced the creation of the Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation (ICCA). Based in the Faculty of Environment at the University of Waterloo, the new centre will address the effects of climate change and extreme weather on Canadian communities.

U Victoria endowment to aid students most in need. The Sisters of St. Ann have established an endowment at the University of Victoria that will continue their legacy of providing education for disadvantaged youth. The $2-million Youth in Care Student Award Endowment will cover the annual tuition costs for an undergraduate degree for up to 15 former youth in care. 

’Tis the Season. Check the MobileCause Season of Giving infographic for intriguing stats (based on U.S. figures) about the prevalence of first-time, recurring and tribute gifts in the final 30 days of the calendar year. The infographic includes tips to make your website and mobile site giving-friendly.

Reversing Canada’s “brain drain”. In the 1990s, it was a much-discussed topic and source of hand-wringing: Canada’s loss of major research talent to the U.S. in particular. Now, claims The Toronto Star, that drain has reversed direction, pulling stellar researchers north. The article profiles several international scientists and engineers now working in Canada, including one professor of quantum materials drawn to University of British Columbia form her former post at Harvard.

Among the Top 50 Universities Under 50 Years Old, according to  QS World University Rankings, University of Calgary is number 12 - the sole Canadian institution in the top 50. The first-ranked three are Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology; and KAIST - Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology. Concordia University and University du Québec were ranked in the 61- 70 range.

Don’t Miss the Deadline: Apply for 2016 TD Fellowships in Advancement by January 15, 2016

The deadline for TD Fellowship in Advancement applications is January 15, 2016. Plan a capacity-building program and scout out a promising candidate now. 

Thanks to generous, long-term  support from TD Insurance Meloche Monnex, two $37,500, one-year TD Fellowships are available each year to CCAE member schools.

Plan Your 2016 Prix d’Excellence Entries

The 2016 CCAE Prix d’Excellence Category Descriptions are now available on the CCAE website.

CCAE has removed or suspended some categories (Best Student Recruitment Viewbook and Best Institutional Branding) while adding others (Best Issues / Crisis Management;  Best Student and/or Young Alumni Initiative). By popular demand, the Best Writing category has been split into Best Feature Writing and Best News Release or Media Communiqué.

The 2016 CCAE Prix dExcellence online entry process opens on January 18, 2016. Entry Deadline is February 19, 2016 (5 p.m., EST).
