Academics and advancement: Working better together

National Partners

Key strategic points shared by faculty at the recent Advancement for Academics workshop:

  • Today, the biggest gifts in the world are directed to higher education.
  • Fundraising teams need to connect with donors through big ideas and shared vision.
  • It’s vital to listen to donor preferences and interests when sharing your institution’s stories and needs.
  • To connect and engage, understand today’s donors, who can be tech-savvy, impatient activists with highly-tuned authenticity radar.
  • Focus on alumni programs with purpose and that provide mutual engagement between a school and its alumni of all generations, rather than merely on events.
  • Taking an academic leader on fundraising calls elevates the importance of the visit, raises the level of gift expectation and can lead to deeper conversations and engagement.

TD Fellowships: A linchpin of advancement teams

Completed applications for 2018-19 TD Insurance Fellowships in Advancement are due on Friday, January 12, 2018.

TDDon’t miss this unique opportunity to add bench strength to your advancement shop through the TD Insurance Fellowships in Advancement program. These Fellowships have built the professionalism of educational advancement for 20 years.

An in-depth program and a promising candidate could secure for your institution one of two 2018-19 TD Insurance Fellowships.

Kara Reynolds, recipient of a 2016-17 TD Insurance Fellowship in Advancement at St. Lawrence College in Kingston, Ontario, has provided tremendous benefits to the college’s small advancement shop, according to Janine Foster, Campaign Director for Uncommon: The Campaign for St. Lawrence College.

“Our participation in the TD Fellowship was game-changing for SLC. Not only did it allow us to expand and grow our offerings to our alumni, but Kara quickly became a linchpin in our small team. The way the Fellowship is structured ensured Kara would experience all facets of what we do, and that’s an opportunity that can’t be beat for both the Fellow and the College.

We hired Kara immediately at the end of her TD Fellowship as our first (and only) dedicated Annual Giving Officer, and I don’t think we could have made that case without the ‘year of proof’ that showed how much of a positive impact she could have on our efforts.”
