Manulife Financial Outstanding Achievement Award - 2006
Vice-President, University Advancement, McMaster University
Roger Trull has been one of the leading lights in Advancement in Canada over the past two decades, through his volunteer service to the profession and his work at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. He has been a tireless and generous mentor to his own staff and to CCAE members across the country, while serving countless volunteer roles nationally, internationally and in the Hamilton community.
One of the earliest champions of integrating all aspects of Advancement, Roger oversaw the renewal and modernization of all areas of Advancement at Mac, increasing the staff from 33 to 75 across Advancement Services, Development, Public and Government Relations and Public Relations. He led the team that brought McMaster’s Changing Tomorrow Today campaign 28% past its $100 million goal, eight months early and under budget, and set a new standard in philanthropy by securing the largest gift to that date by a private donor to a Canadian university ($105 million).
Roger’s service to education dates back to his tenure as President of the McMaster Students’ Union in 1978 (he graduated with an Honours B.A., magna cum laude, in 1979). After a successful decade as a business owner, Roger returned to Mac in 1987 as Director, Alumni Advancement and Annual Giving. He guided a tremendous expansion of alumni events and a more than tenfold increase in revenue from affinity partnerships. He has served as McMaster’s Vice-President, University Advancement since 1994.
As founding President of CCAE-Ontario, Roger championed the expansion of CCAE services and programs to a regional level – a model that other Canadian regions have successfully followed. A past CCAE Board member and member of the CASE Commission on Alumni Relations, Roger has organized and presented at Advancement conferences across Canada, and in the U.S., Europe and Australia. He has been active in the Canadian Club of Hamilton, the Association of Canadian Clubs and the Hamilton Downtown Partnership, among many other volunteer community roles.
CCAE is very pleased to present Roger Trull with the 2006 Manulife Financial Outstanding Achievement Award.
