Position Title: Senior Development Officer – (18 Months Term)

Division:  Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering

Department: Office of Advancement


The Senior Development Officer (SDO) – Major Gifts is part of a team working under the general direction of the Executive Director, Advancement. The incumbent will be located at the Office of Advancement, Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering and responsible for fundraising for programs across the Faculty within the Senior Development Officer’s portfolio. The incumbent identifies, cultivates and solicits donors at the major gift level, generally $25,000 and above with an emphasis on gifts of $100,000 and above. The incumbent contributes to the strategy and ensures proper stewardship takes place following a gift to maintain the donor's involvement, interest and support. The active involvement of department chairs and institute directors, faculty members, senior volunteers and the university community is essential to the overall success of such a program.

Regular daytime schedule with frequent evenings and occasional weekends. Occasional domestic and international overnight travel.



Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.



Five (5) year’s relevant experience in a senior staff fundraising role with a proven track record of success and experience managing a substantial pool of major gift donors and prospective donors. Demonstrated experience in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors and prospective donors at the $25,000+ level.


Exceptional personal and communication skills, strong organizational and analytical skills. Proven ability to manage and motivate high net worth volunteers and friends, i.e., volunteers.  Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access) and other database software, email and Internet.


Evidence of strong initiative, tact, diplomacy. Ability to work in a fast paced and results-oriented environment. Strong team player who values collaboration. Demonstrated ability to straddle the worlds of education and engineering, working with academics and researchers whose vision for significant impact on the world demands both excellence and results.

Note: this is an 18 months term position, with the possibility of renewal.
