Currently, we are seeking to fill the newly created position of Manager, Annual Giving & Constituent Engagement to enhance and grow the alumni, parent and friend engagement and annual fundraising programs at the school. Reporting to the Executive Director, Development, the new Manager will develop long-term strategies and design actionable annual plans to create new programs and experiences that engage key alumni, parents, grandparents and friends in meaningful activities that inspire the community to take positive action through volunteerism and philanthropy.

The Manager will identify key metrics and analytics for annual giving program evaluation, tracking and reporting, bringing an ethic of transparency and accountability to the role. The new incumbent will develop and implement integrated engagement and giving strategies that enhance participation of alumni and other constituents. Working closely with other members of the Development team, Communications team, Board members, faculty and staff, the new Manager will authentically collaborate to design innovative approaches to increase annual giving revenue and participation.

This new full-time position is based on campus at 16945 Bayview Ave, Newmarket, ON.

Fundraising at Pickering College

Pickering College has a long history of generous support from the community. With a focus on enhancing the culture of philanthropy, we demonstrate our commitment to ensuring that students have access to learning and living spaces that support 21st century skills like creativity, collaboration, communication, character and critical thinking.

The Pickering College Annual Giving campaign supports everything that is special about life at Pickering College, and contributes to enhancing and enriching the experience of our students. The annual campaign provides support in tangible and measurable ways for much needed items such as technology-based teaching and learning tools, co-curricular activities and equipment, essential scholarships and bursaries, professional development for faculty, facilities enhancements and maintenance including residences - and much more.

We are grateful for the support of our many donors who contributed over $1.6 million last year to support programs and financial aid, as well as directed support to the Light The Way capital campaign. The Light The Way campaign is a $10 million effort that is designed to support The Pickering College Campus Master Plan and the improvements to the education and student experience. Over $6 million has been raised in support of the campaign thus far, donated by many parents, alumni, grandparents, and friends of the school.

One major priority for the campaign is to construct the New Academic Building. This new construction is intended to create a shared space that will foster the skills imbedded in the Global Leadership Program and that will support the anticipated program growth and academic priorities. Pickering College is working diligently to move forward with plans for this new building, which will offer teaching and learning spaces firmly focused on the future of education. This building will allow what is already an excellent educational experience to flourish and meet demands for this and future generations of global leaders.

 

The Ideal Candidate    

Strategic, analytical and collaborative, the ideal candidate will have a passion to positively impact the lives of young people through education. The new Manager will bring a fresh perspective to building the program by creating data-driven strategies and promoting team collaboration to design innovative and actionable plans that engage the community while clearly and consistently encouraging annual giving.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a keen interest in building new programs from the ground up, and creating renewed methods of reaching out to and engaging with the community. Organized, detail oriented, and creative, the Manager will have a demonstrated record of success in designing and executing successful annual giving programs that increase constituent participation and philanthropic contributions.

Proficient in data analytics and reporting, the new Manager will have the ability to adjust strategies and tactics to ensure achievement of revenue and participation goals. The ideal candidate will be a critical thinker with a high level of comfort with databases and experience in creating enhanced models for functional data management.

The ideal candidate will be a clear communicator with an enthusiasm for new ideas, who has experience in leading professional and constructive discussions amongst varied stakeholder groups. Leading a staff team of two, the new Manager will work to develop individual staff skillsets by focusing on strength building and mindful professional development. Leading by example, the new incumbent will promote a culture of partnership and collaboration to the development team, and will have a demonstrated willingness to roll up sleeves and help out during busy times. The new incumbent will have experience in leading staff through change, understanding the nuanced dynamics required to usher in new programs and move teams to different working models.

The ideal candidate will be a skilled relationship builder who finds new ways to interact with and involve the community in fundraising. Personable, friendly and comfortable to interact with diverse groups of people, the new Manager will demonstrate a high level of cultural fluency. Working collaboratively with colleagues across the school, the ideal candidate will identify innovative ways to involve the campus community in reconnecting with alumni and inspiring parents, grandparents and friends to support the school.

 

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Build strategies and design and implement complementary programs to build long-range plans for alumni and parent engagement leading to achievement of annual giving goals now and in the future.
  • Act as the team leader and resident expert regarding the continued evolution and utilization of the Raiser’s Edge database; Oversee and manage information hygiene including creating new models for data collection, recording, monitoring and extraction. Analyze and provide recommendations on future direction of the function and use of the database.
  • Create strategies and build programs and infrastructure to introduce a robust and dynamic constituent engagement program.
  • Develop KPI’s to track and measure the success of each new engagement event, activity or interaction.
  • Create a strategic moves management system that ensures a meaningful donor experience for annual giving and major giving donors, in collaboration with the Development Manager, Major Gifts and other key stakeholders.
  • Support major gift and planned giving efforts by building the prospect pipeline and ensuring effective communications with colleagues about prospective donors and strategies.
  • Establish, achieve, and provide reports on Annual Giving revenue targets and growth objectives (retention, new donors, increased giving, etc.) from alumni, parents and other prospect audiences; analyze results and response rates accordingly.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director, Development and the Communications team on the design and production of all print and digital marketing and communications materials, proposals, other related collateral for constituent engagement and annual giving programs with strategy developed by the Communications Coordinator.
  • Develop authentic and collaborative working relationships within the Development team, Communications team, key faculty and administrative staff members and other key stakeholders to help inform and engage them in the fundraising process, and enhance the culture of philanthropy.
  • Attend all appropriate campus events to ensure personal face-to-face connection with participating parents and alumni.

 

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Significant annual giving and constituent engagement experience, with a track record of successfully creating meaningful programs, activities and events to deepen engagement and increase the annual giving support of the organizational philanthropic community;
  •  Established experience in successfully building and measuring alumni and parent engagement activities and annual giving fundraising programs that communicate institutional priorities and offer the opportunity for the community to support the school’s advancement;
  • Extensive experience with use of a donor database, preferably Raiser’s Edge, as well as high proficiency in other technologies and information systems;
  • Demonstrated abilities in data analytics and reporting, as well as KPI development and management for revenue and engagement targets;
  •  Familiarity with charitable giving legislation, including CRA rules and guidelines;
  •  Experience in designing and conducting alumni surveys and other methods of feedback collection;
  •  A passion for making a positive impact on young people in Canada;
  • Able to work some flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends;
  • A valid driver’s licence and the ability to travel principally in the local area.
