The Equity, Diversity Inclusion, & Indigeneity, (EDII) in Advancement, Forum aims to bring senior level advancement professionals & their institutional partners together, with the intent to provide thought leadership and strategic practices surrounding the importance of EDII and its impact on Canadian education. Sessions will include concrete take-aways such as tools, contacts and points of reference for your immediate use.
Presentations will cover overall EDII themes, how to have the difficult conversations, and how to re-shape and review your own intrinsic beliefs to alleviate any personal biases and behaviours. The advancement sector is at the forefront of these conversations for their institutions and this program will serve to educate you on how to move forward individually and as teams within your institution.
The Forum will be delivered once a week, for 4 weeks and each session will be 75 minutes in length. Each weeks’ presentation will be live, and attendees will have a chance to pose questions and engage with the content.

At a moment when higher education institutions need real innovation and new strategies in order to engage all constituents and fulfill their missions, applying better practices in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) to advancement is imperative. CCAE invites you to learn from Angelique S.C. Grant, PhD (The Inclusion Firm) and Ron Schiller (Aspen Leadership Group), in conversation with Rob Henry (CASE), as they present practical steps that advancement teams can take to move from awareness about DEI to action that yields results. The conversation will cover three critical areas: 1) creating a culture of inclusion; 2) recruiting and retaining a more diverse team, and 3) inclusive volunteer engagement and fundraising.
Content will draw from the presenters' direct expertise as senior advancement executives and from their book, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Advancement: A Guide to Strengthening Engagement and Fundraising Through Inclusion (CASE 2020).

Including LGBTQ2+ employees has gone from moral courage to a business imperative. We can't tell someone's sexual orientation or gender identity by looking at them, so the language we use to describe our identities has always been important and somewhat complex. Even those who identify as members of the LGBTQ2+ community can lose track of the most current and appropriate terms as well as how to use them in various workplace situations. This session will discuss how to use inclusive language and how to act in allyship - from talent acquisition to workplace culture
At the end of the session, participants will:
- Have a better understanding of right language and making meaningful conversations
- Understand the concept of LGBTQ2S+ across the globe and the cultural context of LGBTQ2S+ in the west compared to the east
- Create an inclusive workplace through gender-neutral language
- Understand the importance of pronouns
- Understand how to act in allyship with LGBTQ2S+ communities

The social, economic and people imperative for a diverse workforce and an inclusive workplace for all is clear. The best workplaces are those that provide the structure and culture that accept and support people of all backgrounds to be their best and offer equal access to opportunities. What role can you play in creating such a workplace environment? This interactive session will ground participants in a conversation around allyship: what it means, types of allies, reflection on one’s own allyship style(s), and concrete steps participants can take to act in allyship at the personal, team and organizational levels.
Audience: This session is applicable to everyone, regardless of your position or role in the organization.

The buzzwords are everywhere: Equity, Inclusion, Diversity, Indigeneity, BIPOC, Ableism, Activism, Aly, LGBTQ2+ and sometimes it gets hard to keep track. Advancement Professionals are sitting on the front lines of a cultural shift, and these are not the times to sit back and be idle. In the past 24 months, professional sports teams have changed their names, university sports teams have changed their names and before the year is over, a Canadian University, will likely, change its name. What does this mean for EDI? What does this mean for building representative workspaces? For shifting culture and engaging in conversation at every level of an organization?
Where does allyship and representation begin? What role do professionals play in bridging generational beliefs, customs, and practices? How does one connect “woke” student support initiatives to traditional long-standing donors and alumni?
